This past weekend ARTA co-hosted an amazing trail day with a group called Volunteers for Outdoor California or V-O-Cal. V-O-Cal is an organization that organizes volunteer trail workdays for a variety of public land management agencies that have recreational trails. V-O-Cal events are a combination of social fun and serious trailwork. Volunteers (75 to 200 strong) arrive on a Friday and provide skilled trail work all day on Saturday and a half-day on Sunday. V-O-Cal is funded fully by donations and provides all the food and facilities for participants free of charge.
For the Arnold Rim Trail, the volunteers completed vegetation clearing and drainage work on the Bamm Bamm and the Wilma’s Wiggles trails along Valley View Road. The work completed by V-O-Cal would have taken ARTA all summer, but the dedicated volunteers of V-O-Cal completed all this work in one weekend of fun and sweat!
We’d like to give a big shout out to the V-O-Cal leadership….. Thank you Executive Director Duane Sheets, Crew Leader Manager Tomomi Yuasa , and Technical Lead Joe Cavanness for facilitating such a great weekend and for getting so much for done for the Arnold Rim Trail community and we look forward to hosting another V-O-Cal event next year!
